Stable Debian, full root VM
Debian VPS hosting on Appbox. A KVM guest with sudo to root, room for Docker and Snap, your own kernel, apt and the main archive, plus SSH and a browser-based console.
What you get with Debian VPS hosting
A real Debian server on KVM, not a shared container userspace.
SSH, sudo, and console
Connect with the credentials on the Overview tab and use sudo for a full root shell. Copy-ready ssh command, host, and port are listed there. The Console tab gives out-of-band access without SSH.
Docker, Snap, full VM
Run Docker Engine, snapd, privileged services, and kernel modules inside your own guest. This is real KVM, not a single shared container image.
Apt and main archive
Install from Debian main, contrib, and non-free-firmware as your policy allows. Same tooling and mirrors you expect on a bare metal Debian install.
Security updates
Track security.debian.org and unattended-upgrades if you want automatic patching, or manage updates yourself with apt on your schedule.
Predictable releases
Pick a minimal image version at install time. Stable focuses on conservative upgrades; newer minimal tracks fresher bases while staying a full VM you control.
KVM with VirtIO
Runs under KVM/QEMU with VirtIO drivers for disk and network so performance stays close to bare metal.

What full KVM unlocks
Workloads that belong on Debian VPS instead of a container-only tier.
Privileged services
Run Docker Engine, libvirt experiments, or custom kernel modules because you control the guest kernel.
Network plumbing
Shape firewall rules, VPN endpoints, and routing inside the VM without sharing a host network namespace.
Compliance-friendly boundary
Present auditors a clear VM boundary when workloads must not share userspace with unrelated tenants.
Long-running stability
Pair Debian stable or minimal images with your own update policy while the hypervisor handles hardware.
Debian VPS vs container-only hosting
| Feature | Debian VPS on Appbox | Shared container PaaS |
|---|---|---|
| Kernel | Your guest kernel | Host-managed kernel |
| Docker Engine | Supported on the guest | Often not nested containers |
| snapd | Possible inside the VM | Rarely available |
| Isolation | Dedicated VM | Shared kernel with neighbors |
| Admin style | Full root on Debian | Platform-enforced limits |
| Best when | You need VM freedoms | Simple web workloads |
Out-of-band access
